The Muted Fall Doll

So here is our very first editorial post! The title of our theme is not only referring to the expression-less and carefree poses of Doris, but it refers to the muted colors of the makeup, and the Fall colours of the outfit.

The weather here in Edmonton is starting to change...from very hot/dry, to the Fall weather of being rainy, windy, and chilly. The colours of the trees are starting to sucessfully turn from green to warmer tones such as yellow, orange, and burgandy. With that being said, fall is definitely a great season to start playing around with the layering of clothes, and to invest in that trenchcoat we all know you've been eyeing! Browns and oranges, are what we think of most when we hear the word Autumn, and luckily so, we're really liking these colors more than before. :)

On the outfit and nails (Doris):
Since this is only just the beginning of the transgression from summer to autumn (my favourite season), I wanted to have a bit of cooler summer colors just to compliment the warmer tones. I decided to skimp out on the accessorizing as I wanted the spotlight and focus to be on the waist up (in the first three photographs) and on the eyeshadow and nails in the latter. I felt that if I added too much accessories, it would take away from the scarf and the top. In order to add more emphasis on the colorful part of the season, the waist down was kept sub-dued with my brown leggings, black bag, and black wedges.

This is a bit galaxy-inspired with the focus again, on the orange. Although subtle in the photographs, there is every color of the rainbow within the confetti coat I used. It was quite difficult for C to try and capture all the different hues and effects.

On the makeup and hair (Carmen):
The colours I chose to use in the makeup are all inspired by the warm-toned Fall colours, and the colors of D's outfit. The cheeks are kept a muted shade of light orange. It is kept so natural that you can barely tell it's there in photos! To compliment the sweater and scarf colours, the eyes are sofly tinted with a black, brown, and blended with a orangey eyeshadow. The lips are kept a nude color to bring out the soft, yet boldness of the eyes. Monolids can be difficult to work on, but with the correct techniques and blending, the exotic oriental eyes can pull off a variety of different styles- from soft, to bold and edgy.

The wavy effortless look for your hair in the Fall can sure be achieved without using heat. To play along with the "doll" look, I chose to keep the hair simple and just volumnized. Just wash your hair the night before, make sure it's fully dry, split the hair to two sections like how you do pigtails, and just french braid it! Make sure you secure it tightly with elastic bands, and feel free to sleep with it overnight. You'll wake up to beautiful, and volumnized, wavy locks! Finish the look off with some shine serum, or add hair oil treatments at ends of the hair. You can tease the hair a little using a teasing comb for added volume as well.
